Tonight was a blast. Seriously, I think I have fallen in love with Dr. Bill and his wife. Dr. Bill is the clinic psychologist where I do ministry and since I’ve known him, he’s not only taught me how to counsel HIV/AIDS patients, but also just how to love people. He immediately took us in at the clinic, and each day he takes the time to talk to us. He tells us stories of his crazy past, but also the life lessons he’s gathered through out the years. He has fallen in love with the people of Pellsurus and has a heart to help them and see their lives change. Anyways, last week he invited us over for dinner tonight. I didn’t realize how great it was going to be.
First of all, we discovered that Dr. Bill lives right down the street from us. He passes our house everyday to go home. Second of all, the man is in love with apple pies, and if you know me at all, you know that I can make a pretty darn good apple pie. I just knew the night would be a success.
Hilliary, Katie, and I showed up at their house at 5:30 pm. We were greeted by Dr. Bill, his wonderful wife Carol and their dog Whiskey, which is named after a dog he carried in his ruck sack just at the end of World War II (I’m tellin’ ya, this guy has some great stories). We had wonderful conversation about Carol and Bill’s lives but also got to hear their heart for the people here in South Africa and their hope for a better tomorrow. They love this country. For her American guests, Carol cooked some fried chicken which went perfectly with our fresh apple pie! After dinner we enjoyed more stories. It was just a nice relaxing night. Their house was homey. It was just perfect.
They are such an amazing couple. I’m really excited to get to know them more. They have been so kind to us, but I can’t wait to spend more time with them. I know I can learn a lot. They ended the evening by offering their home to us at any time, and even coming over to spend the night! We told Carol we would have a girls movie night and teach her how to use her year old DVD player that she hasn’t figured out:) All three of us walked out of their home refreshed. It was just a good breath of fresh air. It was good to feel like we were at home.

This is wonderful to hear you have such nice, friendly people to fellowship with! …and with fried chicken and your tasty apple pie. NICE!
What a nice night. Dr. Bill sounds like a cool guy. I hope you get to hang out with him. Take every opportunity to learn from those around you.
